7 Essential questions to ask your removalist before you commit.
Communication is the key to any healthy relationship, and the relationship between you and your removalist will be a brief but important one. It’s important to make sure everyone is on the same page before the first box hits the truck. Here are our 7 essential questions to ask your removalist before moving forward.
Are you insured?
Almost any reputable moving company will have insurance. Confirm your removalists insurance details and steer clear of any company that isn’t insured. Also, make sure to ask what exactly is covered in their insurance and what isn’t. Are all your valuables covered and what kind of damages or instances are they covered under?
How are your prices estimated?
Always ask for a breakdown of their quote and how it was estimated. Some companies will estimate based on volume, truck space, man-hours, distance or the total time it will take. Once you can see how they’ve estimated, you’ll have a better understanding of their service.
What exactly is included in the service?
You know what they say about assumptions, right? Ask exactly what is included in the price, and if you have any special requests make sure to let them know. Don’t let poor communication and assumptions lead to unexpected costs or blowouts.
Can you provide some references?
In today’s online world, word of mouth and reputation are very important to a lot of businesses. Ask your removalist for some references or look for reviews and testimonials on their website. Be wary of any company that can’t provide at least a couple of references, that’s a big red flag.
How can we best prepare before you arrive?
Some removalists will expect different things to be taken care of before they arrive. Make sure to ask them what they expect on your part and what things may make their job a little easier. These are often small things like making sure the driveway is clear for their truck.
What kind of moves does your company have experience in?
You probably wouldn’t hire a builder who only builds suburban houses to build your new skyscraper. And while technically it’s the same industry, removalists can specialise or cater for only one type of move. Moving a few suburbs over is vastly different than moving interstate or internationally. If they don’t have experience doing the kind of move you’re doing, they might not be for you.
Do you have any questions for me?
Communication is a two-way street. If the removalist doesn’t seem too interested in you and your circumstances, they might not be interested in helping you that much.
