Canberra rated as Australia’s most livable city
Melbourne has long been regarded as Australia’s best town to live in.
But that’s not the case if you ask the locals.
New data from realestate.com.au‘s Life in Australia Index report explores what attributes Australians feel the most important when choosing where to live while ranking their current location.
And Canberra comes out on top based on a number of important attributes. These are:
- feeling safe
- health services
- housing
- employment prospects and
- public transport.
The study, taken last October, showed that people viewed feeling safe, getting access to high-quality healthcare and good job prospects as the most important.
Residents in the Australian capital felt more positive about their city than the national average.
Perth jumped two places to number two on the list of most liveable cities, thanks largely to a prosperous economy ranking higher with locals.
Adelaide has also jumped two places since last year’s survey; Brisbane residents reported feeling less safe. Melburnians rated their city sixth for liveability due to a drop in social cohesion and feeling less safe.
Sydney residents didn’t like the lack of local affordable housing, while Darwin ranked their city as the least liveable in Australia.
