 Moving Pets Interstate Move

Pets are important family members so when its time to move house it is important to consider them as well.

Animals do not adjust as well as humans do to new surroundings, if your pet feels threatened or uncomfortable it could runaway, become depressed or stressed.

There are a few things you can do to help your furry family members when transitioning into a new home.

When packing keep your pet separate, lock them in another room or keep them outside.

This is especially important for cats as they can become very uneasy when their home is being disrupted. They could also climb into a box for a sleep and end up being transported with your belongings!

Transporting your pet to your new home is an important step. They need to be kept as calm and comfortable as possible especially when traveling long distances.

It is best to have your new home set up before your pets arrive so they do not have to re-adjust once everything is unpacked. If they are arriving before the house is ready you could confine them to one room, this ensures you know they are safe and gives them time to adjust.

You should give your pet lots of affection when transitioning homes and make sure they have everything they need; familiar toys and beds will help them settle in.

Your new home must be pet proof, be sure to check the yard and inside the house for hazards such as poisons, chewable objects and check for holes in the fencing.

Have your phone number on your pets collar in case they escape or become frightened and run away. If your pet is micro chipped be sure to update your contact and address details.

Remember to be patient. In no time your pet will be back to normal and you can enjoy your new home together.
