Moving precious items: our tips for using the right boxes

We all want to look our sharpest during racing season.

The Spring Racing Carnival is a time for high fashion and breaking out into our finery.

But if you are moving house, the thought of packing up your best suits, dresses and jewellery in boxes isn’t a pleasant one.

Making sure you keep your best clothes in good condition is important. And just because we are moving house doesn’t mean our nice evening wear has to get crumpled or damaged.

With this in mind, here are our top three tips about how to move your precious items next time you move home.

Hang clothes in wardrobe boxes

Did you know you can use boxes that are designed to replicate your wardrobe?

These special long boxes even have a place to hang your coat hangers off. Think of all your freshly ironed shirts. Or perhaps your business attire.

Using one of these means saving a trip to the dry cleaners when you arrive at your new house. They can also protect your clothes from dirt and dust.

Try Kennards for good quality moving boxes.

Wrap your clothes

Depending on your time, or if you don’t want to buy boxes, there are a few options to make sure your precious clothes don’t get crumpled too.

Vacuum seal bags are a fantastic (and cost-effective) way of keeping your clothes together.

You could also use garbage bags (cut a hole in the top for the hanger) too if you are on a budget, or try plastic or sheets.

Keep your valuables in small boxes

If you’ve spent time amassing a large jewellery or makeup collection, these can be difficult to transport effectively.

Our first tip is to keep your jewellery and small items in separate boxes – don’t mix these up.

You could use tape to ensure your smaller goods are kept together.

Wrap them with a sheet, towel, or invest in a double layered box like this one from Storage King.

Have fun this racing season. And hopefully, these tips will help you move easier on your way to the races.
